Online Learning-Choose What Is Right For You!

Synchronous Learning: Live Online Instruction

What does a typical day look like in the synchronous program?

Support and Student Independence

  • Students receive daily live instruction and support from their teacher, however, parent or guardian involvement is still essential to ensure consistency between school and home.
  • Students are expected to work independently throughout the day and show initiative in their learning.

Daily Schedule

  • Teachers establish schedules with defined deadlines and track student progress and work completion throughout the week.
  • Students are assigned to an online class where they interact with their teacher and classmates within a structured learning environment.
  • Monday-Thursday include daily live classes delivered through Zoom, teacher-led lessons.
  • Teachers are available in the afternoons to meet with students and provide support as needed. Students are also expected to use this time to work independently on assignments and activities.

Communication and Engagement

  • Attendance is required and taken at the start of each class.
  • Students are expected to have cameras on during classes. Cameras are mandatory in grades 1-9 as well as diploma courses.
  • Cameras and microphones are also required during supervised assessments(High School).
  • Proctoring software is used, especially for high school exams, to maintain academic integrity

Asynchronous: teacher-supported but self-paced

What does a typical day of online learning look like in the asynchronous program?

Support and Student Independence

  • A guideline for work completion is provided by the teacher, however, students are expected to be self-motivated and able to begin and manage their own learning.
  • A higher level of parental support may be required.
  • In Grades 1-9 a caregiver at home acts as a learning coach/support, by helping plan weekly schedules, maintain organization, and provide a consistent learning space.
  • Students follow the same curriculum as they would in a traditional school setting.

Daily Schedule

  • A student’s schedule may be adjusted to support their learning needs, provided that all required work is completed.
  • Students enrolled in this program are not restricted to the hours of a ‘traditional school day’.
  • Attendance is measured through regular/weekly work submissions.

Communication and Engagement

  • Ongoing, two-way communication between students and teachers is expected.
  • Students are required to use their camera and microphone during secured assessments when directed by their teacher.
  • Proctoring software (Proctorio) may be used for supervised evaluations, particularly in higher grades.
